I have once again set up my home studio, after a move from downtown Indianapolis Indiana. I truly miss the community and friends that stopped by to visit me in my previous studio, but am very blessed to have a space in my home that is all mine! Having this sacred space in my home allows me the freedom to work anytime, day or night. This is a big deal in the life of an artist, especially one who Jesus calls “His Dandelion”!
As i have shared before, my creative time is my prayer time. I prepare myself for my work as if i were entering a church. I bless my self with Holy Water, which i also add to my water cup that rinses my brushes. My spirituality is very Ignatian, with a tad bit Carmelite and Charismatic thrown in. Everything… color, stroke, foreground, has a purpose, visual, or symbolism. I consider how when i dip my brush into the dirty water, it comes out clean and recall my baptism or the sacrament of reconciliation. Im in prayer and sometimes this prayer looks like a dance and other times, it look like a wrestling match. I bring all that i am to the easel, i am loved, accepted and free to be all that I am.
I usually have the rosary or Christian music playing on my wireless speaker. Music ranges from Merle Haggard to Gregorian Chant and this depends on if I’m dancing or wrestling that day. I have candles burning and essential oils of frankincense or rose wafting… just like my prayers to Heaven. I meet myself in this sacred space, and the Lord introduces me to His friends in Heaven.
I love when a have visitors to my home studio so if you ever want to have a tour and see some of the original painting i have for sale, please contact me. Be sure to sign up for my newsletter if you want information about home studio tours and visits.
